Why Not Replace?

New bathtubs are often of lesser quality than the originals. They are smaller and often made of steel or fiberglass. "They just don't make them like they used to."

Replacement of a fixture or tile may take weeks, but reglazing will be completed in a few hours or days.

Replacement is messy, noisy, and dirty work. Your new bathtub will probably be smaller than your old tub.

Unexpected damage can occur in other parts of your house when walls and tiles are hammered and broken out.

Replacing an existing bathtub can be very expensive and destructive. Wall and floor tile must be broken, removed, and disposed of. Walls must be gouged out and sometimes 2x4s have to be cut and replaced.

Your plumber will have to shut off the water, then disconnect and remove the pipes and faucets.

The heavy cast iron tub will have to be removed and disposed of.

Installation of the new bathtub may require a carpenter.

A plumber must install the pipes, shower/tub faucets, and spigot.

A tiler will have to install new wallboard, floorboards, and tile.

The redone bathroom may have to be brought up to new building codes.
